In Focus: Preston

23 November 2017

Norwich City host Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday, November 25 (3pm).

The game marks the first return to Carrow Road of former Canaries boss Alex Neil, who managed the club between January 2015 and March 2017.

Here, we take a look at the North End squad Neil has at his disposal.

Key Players
Although not a name which immediately jumps off the page, midfielder Alan Browne has proven his importance to Preston North End this season.

A near-permanent fixture in the side, the former Ireland Under-19 captain has made 18 apppearances so far this term, scoring once.

The 22-year-old Browne is often joined in midfield by the influential Ben Pearson, a player of the same age who graduated from Manchester United's youth system.

Pearson will be absent this weekend however, with his yellow card against Bristol City on Tuesday seeing him pick up an accumulative suspension.

Previous Meeting
The last time the two sides met marked the emergence of City's James Maddison at this level.

Maddison came off the bench late on to net the final goal of a 3-1 win at Deepdale towards the end of last season.

Graham Dorrans' deflected drive had initially opened the scoring, before Josh Murphy doubled the advantage before the interval.

Tommy Spurr pulled a goal back for Preston midway through the second half, ahead of Maddison netting his first for the club late on to secure victory.

Form Guide
Preston brought an end to a testing run of form in midweek, earning a 2-1 win away to Bristol City.

Goals from Paul Gallagher and Callum Robinson proved enough to give them all three points despite Cauley Woodrow's consolation, lifting North End up to 11th.

That was Preston's first triumph since September 26, a run of seven games which included defeats to Ipswich Town and Aston Villa.

A key factor in their downturn following a strong start to the campaign was injuries, with several players having been on the treatment table at the same time.
