Goalkeeper Remi Matthews played through the pain barrier on Tuesday as Plymouth Argyle picked up an important 2-0 win over Northampton Town in Sky Bet League One.

The stopper was suffering from bad bruising to his knees prior to the game, but Argyle were left with little other choice due to all other goalkeeping options being unavailable.

Matthews continued his impressive run with the Devon side, keeping a clean sheet as Sonny Bradley's brace gave them victory over their relegation rivals.

Plymouth are now within two points of safety, having been far further adrift just a few weeks ago.

At the other end of the table, Shrewsbury Town suffered a shock 1-0 reverse to bottom club Bury.

Having seen Shaun Whalley miss a penalty, Shrewsbury fell behind ten minutes into the second half when Greg Leigh struck - condemning them to their second league defeat of the season.

Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris both started the match, with the latter substituted late on while Ebou Adams was an unused substitute.

Harry Toffolo played the full match for Doncaster Rovers as they were beaten 3-0 at Wigan Athletic.

A goal from Michael Jacobs put the hosts in front, before Ryan Colclough's double confirmed their victory.

In Sky Bet League Two, an early Sammie Szmodics goal saw Lincoln City go down to a 1-0 defeat at Colchester United.

Defender Sean Raggett completed 90 minutes for Lincoln as they dropped to 11th in the league standings.

Elsewhere, Diallang Jaiyesimi was named Man of the Match as Grimsby Town came fought their way to a 3-2 win over Swindon Town.

Jamille Matt had put Grimsby in front, only to later score an own-goal after Keshi Anderson had levelled for the visitors.

It was Jaiyesimi who provided the cross for Siriki Dembele to equalise on 71 minutes, before Mitch Rose struck late to secure all three points for The Mariners.

A level further down, Michee Efete played the full match as Torquay United claimed an impressive 1-0 win away to Sutton United.

Ruairi Keating's tenth minute goal settled the contest, lifting Torquay off the bottom of the National League in the process.
