Loan Round-Up: First league start for Jaiyesimi

20 November 2017

Diallang Jaiyesimi made his first league start for Grimsby Town on Saturday as they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two.

The youngster, who recently signed a new deal with City, went close early on but rattled the crossbar from close-range and was eventually substituted on 80 minutes.

His withdrawal from the action came ten minutes after Clint Hill had headed home what proved to be the winning goal for the travelling Cumbrians.

In the same division, Sean Raggett's Lincoln City also suffered a home loss as they were beaten 2-1 by Coventry City.

Matt Rhead's goal had taken them into the interval ahead, but second half goals from Jodi Jones and Duckens Nazon turned the game around.

In Sky Bet League One, ten-man Shrewsbury struck deep into injury-time to secure a fine 2-1 win at Rotherham United.

Jon Nolan netted after quarter-of-an-hour for Salop, only for Abu Ogogo to be shown a straight red card early in the second half for a late tackle.

Rotherham took advantage of their numerical superiority with 14 minutes remaining, with Richie Towell netting to level proceedings.

However, a dramatic finish saw Stefan Payne nick all three points for the table-toppers when he met a cross to find the net.

Ben Godfrey played the full match for Shrewsbury, while Carlton Morris featured for the final 13 minutes with Ebou Adams missing out on the matchday squad.

Elsewhere, Harry Toffolo completed 90 minutes as Doncaster Rovers successfully shut out Fleetwood Town to earn a 0-0 draw away from home.

There was no such luck for Remi Matthews' Plymouth Argyle, who went down to a convincing 4-0 home defeat to Oxford United.

The Pilgrims' cause became a tough one from as early as the 15th minute, when Ryan Edwards was dismissed for a foul in the penalty-area.

Ryan Ledson converted the subsequent spot-kick, leaving Plymouth with considerable work to do in order to extend their five match unbeaten run.

Although they didn't suffer any further damage until the second half, goals from Wes Thomas, James Henry and Jon Obika ultimately took the game firmly beyond their reach.

In the National League, Michee Efete played the first half of struggling Torquay United's 2-0 defeat at AFC Fylde.

A goal in each half from divisional top-scorer Danny Rowe settled the contest, sending The Gulls to the bottom of the league in the process.

Finally, Henry Pollock played 84 minutes as Norwich United were beaten 4-1 at Potters Bar Town in the Isthmian Football League North Division.
