David Wright: Under-18s are ready for Villa

8 September 2017

Under-18s Head Coach David Wright believes his youngsters are close to clicking into gear this season after a difficult start.

The youngsters have found the early part of the season tough-going but Wright is confident his players will hurt teams once they get everything into place.

He said: “Results-wise it hasn’t been great, but we’ve played Tottenham and Chelsea and we can’t really compete with those two.

“The disappointing bit was we didn’t give those two a shock whereas last year, especially Tottenham, we gave them a really good game and beat them once.

“We need to get rid of the sloppiness in our play. Our passing sometimes lets us down and we need to be better at knowing what our teammates needs from us.

“The times when we control the possession and then change the tempo has pleased me. We have lots of pace and power in the team and we do create numerous chances."

City travel to Aston Villa tomorrow (11am kick-off) and it’s a game Wright is looking forward to.

“All the boys are looking forward to tomorrow. It’s always a physical match at Villa and hopefully we can get our first win.”

“It’s a good chance for the lads to get things right. We’ve had a good couple of weeks training and we’re ready to go.”
