After getting back on the winning trail against Birmingham City on Saturday, Norwich City face a quick turnaround as they prepare to face Burton Albion at Carrow Road on Tuesday.
Burton go into the match on the back of a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Leeds United but Nigel Clough’s men will provide a stern test for the Canaries. Here’s our look at City’s next opponents.
Summer signings
It was a tough summer for Clough who lost arguably his best player in Jackson Irvine. The Australian playmaker was Burton’s top scorer last season and moved to Hull City in August.
However, Clough has brought in a host of new faces as he looks to improve on their exploits last season.
The experienced defensive duo of Stephen Warnock (pictured) and Jake Buxton have both joined on free transfers with right-back John Brayford also moving on a free from Sheffield United.
Matthew Lund, Hope Akpan, Luke Murphy and Jamie Allen have been brought in to a completely new-look midfield, with Liam Boyce, Sean Scannell, Will Miller and Joe Mason signed as attacking options.
Canary connections
Connections between the two sides are in short supply seeing as Burton’s history stretches back just half a century and the two teams have only ever met twice.
However, goalkeeper Remi Matthews (pictured) has spent two stints on loan at the Pirelli Stadium with ex-Canaries Nathan Redmond and Lee Camp having also spent time on loan there.
Former striker Paul Peschisolido spent time on loan with the Canaries in 2001 and his only managerial role so far was with Burton between 2009 and 2012.
Form guide
Last season was Burton’s first in the second-tier of English football and they beat the odds to avoid relegation, securing safety with a 1-1 draw with Barnsley back in April.
However, their 2017-18 season has not begun perhaps how Clough would have wanted it to. The Brewers are currently in the bottom three and have conceded the most goals in the division.
They were defeated 1-0 on the opening day to current Sky Bet Championship table toppers Cardiff City and followed that with a 4-1 loss away at Hull City a week later.
Things didn’t get better for Burton after a midweek defeat at Middlesbrough before they picked up their first league win of the season on Friday 18 August at home to Birmingham City, the team the Canaries beat at the weekend.
A draw with Sheffield Wednesday and then the comprehensive defeat to Leeds United means that Burton’s 2017-18 league record stands at one win, one draw and four losses.
