Loan round-up: Morris fires Shrewsbury to victory

4 September 2017

Carlton Morris and Ben Godfrey helped Shrewsbury Town continue their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Gillingham, a result which saw them move up to second in Sky Bet League One.

Morris scored the opener on 30 minutes with a close-range strike before Alex Rodman’s header doubled Salop’s lead shortly after.

The Gills pulled one back in the second half but Shrewsbury held on for the victory to make it four wins and a draw from their first five league games this season.

Godfrey played the full 90 minutes in Kent with Morris playing just over an hour and Ebou Adams watching from the substitute's bench.

Sean Raggett helped Lincoln City to a clean sheet as they drew 0-0 with Luton Town at Sincil Bank.

The defender once again played 90 minutes for the Imps as they moved up to 14th in Sky Bet League Two.

In the same division, Diallang Jaiyesimi played the final 20 minutes of Grimsby Town’s 1-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra.

The Mariners were looking for their first win in four games and took the lead in the first half through Mitch Rose.

Jaiyesimi was introduced in the second half and helped Grimsby see out the win for a crucial three points.

Louis Ramsay played most of the second half as Woking beat Macclesfield Town 3-1 in the National League.

Woking lead 2-1 at the break thanks to goals from Jason Banton and Joe Ward before Inih Effiong sealed the points in the last minute.

Elsewhere, Harry Toffolo was an unused substitute for Doncaster Rovers in their 0-0 stalemate against League One leaders Peterborough United and Joe Crowe played 90 minutes as Limerick lost 2-0 at home to Finn Harps in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

Michee Efete was not included in Torquay United’s matchday squad as they drew 1-1 with Chester.
