Matt Gill: We want to turn draws into wins

25 September 2017

Matt Gill hopes his U23s can start turning good performances into victories as they ready themselves for a trip to Reading on Monday.

Gill’s squad are currently unbeaten in three matches but have drawn their last two and the Head Coach is hoping his players can start turning positive displays into more points.

“We’ve gone three unbeaten,” observed Gill. “We’ve had quite good consistency with team selection which helps and the lads are taking on the information me and Hucks [assistant coach] are trying to give them.

“They’re in a decent enough place but we want to try and build on our performances now and turn them into results.

“There was loads of positives to take from the Blackburn game at Carrow Road on Sunday but the overriding feeling was that we could have won the game and we should have a done a bit more in that second half.

“We’ve done lots of attacking work this week alongside working on our defensive shape that we do all the time. Obviously we’re looking to turn draws into wins but as long as the lads are taking on board what we’re telling them, that’s the main thing.”

The U23s take on recently-relegated Reading at the Reading Training Ground on Monday (1pm) and Gill is expecting a good test for his group.

“We came across them in a cup semi-final last year and they outplayed us on the day so it will be a really tough game,” he continued.

“It’s at their training ground so the lads have to make sure they’re ready for the challenge. They’ve got some good players and quite a bit of strength in depth so it will be a good challenge and one the lads are looking forward to.

“We have no new injury concerns which is good because the lads have been worked very hard this week. So we’ll look very similar on Monday.”
