Loan Round-Up: Matthews keeps clean sheet for Plymouth

1 April 2018

Remi Matthews kept a clean sheet as Plymouth Argyle recorded a comfortable victory over Southend United to boost their play-off ambitions.

Doubles from Graham Carey and Ruben Lameiras saw the Pilgrims ease to a 4-0 triumph which keeps them in the play-offs with seven games to play.

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury Town’s automatic promotion hopes suffered a dent as they were beaten 3-1 at Rochdale.

Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris both played 90 minutes but couldn’t prevent Salop from being beaten at Spotland.

Nathan Thomas opened the scoring for the visitors but Rochdale roared back with goals from Oliver Rathbone, Steven Davies and former Canary Ian Henderson helping them to victory.

In the Championship, Yanic Wildschut was introduced as a late substitute as Cardiff City took a step closer to automatic promotion with a 3-1 victory over Burton Albion.

In League Two, Paul Jones was an unused substitute for Exeter City in their 3-2 defeat at Lincoln City.

Elsewhere in the division, both Adam Phillips (Cambridge United) and Diallang Jaiyesimi (Grimsby Town) were absent from action.

In Scotland, Russell Martin played 90 minutes as Rangers came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Motherwell.

First-half strikes from Curtis Main and Allen Campbell put Motherwell two in front but Rangers secured a point after the break through goals from James Tavernier and Jamie Murphy.

In the same division, Kenny McLean played 90 minutes as Aberdeen thrashed St Johnstone  4-1 to move level on points with the Gers.

In the National League, Ebou Adams played 76 minutes as Leyton Orient picked up a crucial 3-1 victory away to Guiseley.

However, Louis Ramsay’s Woking slipped further into relegation trouble after a last minute winner from Danny Whitehead saw the Cards beaten 3-2 at home to league leaders Macclesfield Town. Ramsay played 76 minutes for Anthony Limbrick’s side.

Torquay United kept their faint hopes of survival alive with a 2-0 win over Chester. Michee Efete was an unused substitute for the Gulls.

Overseas, Marcel Franke helped Dynamo Dresden record a 1-1 draw at home to Nuremberg but Todd Cantwell missed Fortuna Sittard’s 4-1 victory over Almere City through injury.

In non-league, Jake Hallett played the full match in Mildenhall Town’s defeat at Haringey Borough.
