Moritz Leitner could make his return from a four week injury lay-off in Norwich City's Sky Bet Championship clash with Aston Villa on Saturday (12.30pm).
The on-loan City midfielder has been absent since the defeat to Hull City on March 10 with a hamstring injury but could make his return at Carrow Road on Saturday.
“He was back in training yesterday [Thursday] and he hasn’t been away for too long,” said boss Daniel Farke at his pre-match press conference.
“So we could have him back in the squad for tomorrow but he isn’t ready to start just yet.”
Marco Stiepermann has been missing since the draw at Derby County in February with a hernia problem but a return for the versatile man is not too far away, according to Farke.
“Like Moritz Leitner, Marco Stiepermann has been back in training for two days, though it’s too early to call on him tomorrow. But it’s good to have him back in training.”
However, there was disappointing news delivered on the fitness of winger Onel Hernandez.
“There is no chance for Onel. There was sadly a setback in his rehab. There is no chance for Sunderland either. It will probably late next week when he can return to team training."
Elsewhere, Sean Raggett missed the trip to QPR on Easter Monday with a back problem but he is back and available for selection this weekend.
However, Marley Watkins will miss the visit of Villa on Saturday due to illness.
To round off his injury bulletin, Farke gave an update on the fitness of Tom Trybull – the midfielder has been missing since the start of February with ligament injuries.
“Tom Trybull has been doing some work on the pitch with the ball recently so we still hope to have him back for our last four games.”
