Grant Holt joins Academy coaching set-up

11 August 2018

Norwich City legend Grant Holt is set join the Academy coaching set-up at Colney on a part-time basis, the Club is delighted to confirm.

The talismanic striker, who bagged 78 goals in 168 games in a transformational spell across three divisions with the Canaries between 2009 and 2014, will initially join the Academy staff at Colney to work with the Under-23 players and below for one day a week, when the schoolboy players are also in from day release from school.

In addition he will continue with his vital support for the Club as Commercial Ambassador, a role he has successfully held for the last year.

Holt, 37, has been working towards his coaching qualifications and gained more hands-on experience last season when he joined National League side Barrow as player-coach, making 23 appearances for the Bluebirds.

City’s Sporting Director Stuart Webber said everyone at Colney was looking forward to welcoming three-times Barry Butler Memorial Trophy winner Holt back to help work with the young Canary players:

“We’re pleased to have agreed a part-time role for Grant to come back and continue his coaching development with us and bring the benefit of his experience of scoring goals at every level of English football into the mix at Colney.

“His achievements for this Club speak for themselves and he’s played - and scored - against some of the best defenders in the country. It will be good to have him back helping Norwich City’s next generation of players.”

“The opportunity to bring a Club legend who is still so current into work with our young players was too good an opportunity to miss. Grant, Steve Weaver and I have been in discussions for some time on how this can work and we think we’ve found a good starting point.

“Not only is it good to have Grant’s undoubted playing history close to our young players but also his willingness and humbleness to work and develop himself further as a coach. His personality fits in perfectly with the values that we are trying to instil into our young players.”

Commercial Director Ben Kensell paid tribute to a great year of assistance provided by Holt during his time so far as Commercial Ambassador:

“It’s been a real asset to this Football Club to have Grant supporting some of our key commercial projects and partnerships, like the recent sponsorship of the Barclay by Woodforde’s and a host of other launches and events he’s been part of for us. It’s great that he’s going to continue supporting us in this way while taking on a new challenge at Colney as well.”
