Under-18s lose 2-1 in the Premier League cup

8 December 2018

Norwich City's Under-18s lost 2-1 against Newcastle in the Premier League Cup after a frantic end to the game.

Ryan Dickerson replaced Sam Blair in goal for the Canaries, while the only other defensive change saw Jordan Thomas replace Ante Berkeley who was on the bench. Zak Dronfield and Saul Milovanovic replaced Denzelle Olopade and Matt Richardon in the City midfield.

Josh Giurgi started despite coming off with an injury last weekend and he replaced Arash Ahmadi who was listed as one of the substitutes. Adam Idah replaced Tyrese Omotoye as the central striker, the latter was not involved in the squad altogether.

Both sides struggled to gain any momentum for long periods in the first half, with both teams finding it difficult playing in the testing windy conditions. The sides went in level at half time, with no real chances of note.

City went 1-0 ahead with around 20 minutes to go in the second half. Thorvaldsson broke quickly, as City counter-attacked. The ball fell for Idah who put the ball into the back of the net and put the visitors in control of the game.

Three minutes later the home side were level after scoring a penalty. The ball hit Louis Lomas’ hand and the referee pointed to the spot.

In the latter stages of the game the Magpies turned the game around and went 2-1 ahead, before Thorvaldsson was sent off for a late challenge.

City Starting XI: Dickerson, Thomas, Barkarson, Omobamidele, Lomas, Dronfield, Vaughan, Milovanovic, Idah, Thorvaldsson, Giurgi.

Subs: Richardson, Olopade, Ahmadi, Barkeley.
