Josh Murphy targeting major derby impact

15 February 2018

Josh Murphy wants to leave his mark on East Anglian derby history when Norwich City face Ipswich Town at Carrow Road on Sunday (12pm).

In the corresponding fixture last season, Josh's twin brother Jacob netted for the hosts as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Mick McCarthy's side.

The 22-year-old winger is eager to replicate that feat this time around, telling canaries.co.uk: "If you score in an East Anglian derby, you're going to go down in history.

"That's something I'll be looking to do so hopefully I can follow in Jacob's footsteps. I've scored against Ipswich all through my youth career though so to do it at first team level would be the icing on the cake.

"As long as anyone scores though, I'll be happy. The new players have got the gist of the derby.

"They know it's a massive game and I'm sure they will be right up for it when they see Carrow Road on Sunday. The atmoshphere the fans will create is going to spur us on.

"The supporters have been great the last couple of months and it's given us a big boost."

Murphy believes the match comes at a good time for Daniel Farke's side, who have settled into something of a groove of late with a series of impressive results.

"We're playing well and everyone has found their calling really," he explained.

"We know what we're doing as a team. We defend for our lives and are working hard for each other. We know we can beat them and want to leave with three points on Sunday.

"It's the big derby and everyone is looking forward to it. Being in the city recently, you can feel the buzz. It's going to be a big day and there's a lot riding on it.

"We're level on the same points so there's a 'winner takes all' feel to it."
