Adam Idah says he is relishing Norwich City Under-18s FA Youth Cup clash against Derby County on Friday (7pm).
Idah was the hattrick hero as City came from behind to beat Barnsley 4-1 in the third round in December, and he’s looking forward to getting back out at Carrow Road against the Rams.
“I think this competition is really important and it’s really special to me,” Idah told the local press on Wednesday. “It’s such a big competition, and everyone knows we have to play well.
“I think everyone gets excited the week before when we’re training. There’s good vibes and everyone gets a bit motivated.”
Idah, who joined in July from College Corinthians and represents Republic of Ireland Under-17s, says City's win over Barnsley means they will go in with confidence against Derby – who knocked out Manchester United on penalties in the last round.
“Obviously I was delighted to get a hattrick,” he said. “But we didn’t really play great in the first half so we were a bit disappointed. The second half, I think everyone put in a good shift so after the game we were really delighted and relieved to get a good performance.
“If we can start the game like we did the second half against Barnsley, we should have no doubt about winning the game. Against Barnsley, it was the first time many of us had played in front of a crowd, and played in a stadium, but I think everybody has gone past that and if we’re all confident at the start again, we should have a good performance.”
Idah, whose goalscoring form resulted in an appearance for Norwich's Under-23s last month, is looking forward to playing at Carrow Road again on Friday evening. “Everyone is buzzing for the Youth Cup, everyone really wants to get out and play on Carrow Road. Everyone is looking forward to it.”
