Daniel Farke was pleased his “special plan” paid off as Norwich City held Chelsea to a goalless draw at Carrow Road in the FA Cup third round to force a replay.
City started with a back three in an attempt to match their Premier League opponents and the change in formation paid off.
Speaking post-match, Farke said: “We were outstanding in the first-half. We were the dominating team, we didn’t give away any chances and created several situations.
“In the second-half, Chelsea were there with some crossing situations and shots from distance but we had two or three situations too.
“When you face an opponent with so much individual quality, you have to consider that individual quality is better than yourself. You always need a special plan to be successful.
“We worked a lot on this way because we wanted to put the strength of Chelsea away and mirror them a bit in their build-up.
“It was up to the guys to fulfil our ideas and plans with a brilliant performance on the pitch and they did.”
Farke admits it will be difficult to match their Carrow Road performance at Stamford Bridge but he said his staff and players will give their all to pull off a major shock.
“It’s not so easy to repeat such a performance against such a giant,” he added. “We had this at The Emirates [against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup] and today and to repeat for the third time to be the better team is not easy. It is our task and we will try everything.
“We will be prepared and try to have a special plan for that game as well. We know especially in an away game it’s a bit more difficult than a home game. We will try our best.”
