Matt Gill labelled his Under-23s’ performance in their 6-0 thrashing of Borussia Dortmund as “outstanding”.
After beating Paderborn 2-1 in their previous pre-season match, Gill’s side went into their clash with the German giants as clear underdogs.
But a superb display from the Canaries saw them run out comfortable winners in Lunen.
Speaking to canaries.co.uk, Head Coach Gill said: “We were looking forward to it; it was the stand-out game of the trip.
“After Sunday’s positive result, it gave the boys lots of confidence. We had a good debrief on stuff we did well and where we could improve.
“We got off to a flyer and lots of things we had been working on came off. The performance was outstanding and it was a great collective performance which shows how together the group is.
“They are always desperate to improve and they’re a very hard-working bunch so I’m chuffed that they got some reward.”
Adam Idah and Anthony Spyrou stole the headlines, scoring four and two respectively, but Gill was keen to praise the display put in from his whole team.
“Both the front boys were a massive threat. They are quick and strong and scare the life out of defences. It was so important that we played with purpose but that plays to their strengths.
“The boys behind them kept the ball well on a difficult surface. There were brilliant performances right across the pitch.
“It was also the second 90 minutes in three days for some of the lads but they’ve done some great fitness work with Jay Eastoe-Smith [sports scientist] during the off-season and pre-season.
“They’ve coped really well with the heat and conditions out here, so all credit to them.”
