Daniel Farke: We are all excited for the new season

21 June 2018

Daniel Farke says he and his Norwich City side are excited to get back into the swing of things after the announcement of the 2018-19 Sky Bet Championship fixtures.

City will begin their campaign with a trip to Birmingham City on Saturday, August 4 before their first match at Carrow Road a week later on August 11 against recently relegated West Bromwich Albion.

Speaking to following the fixtures announcement, the City Head Coach said: “For sure, the fixture list is important because we have to prepare the lads for the new season.

“I cannot influence the fixture list so I have been more focused on preparing for our pre-season which starts very soon.

“You can analyse when it’s good to play each team but each and every team has to play each other twice.

“But I know all the lads are looking forward to getting back to work in pre-season and we are all very excited for the new season.”

Looking in more detail at City’s start to the season, Farke continued: “Birmingham away is a very tough start. If I’m honest, they were struggling last season and just managed to stay up.

“But they are a big club with a great head coach in Garry Monk. They will have a much better role in the league next season.

“For West Brom, their main topic is to return to the Premier League. It doesn’t get much tougher than playing them at home first but it will be a good test for my lads.”

The East Anglian derbies with Ipswich Town are always the most anticipated fixtures when the list is announced and Farke hopes City can continue their good run against their local rivals in their visit to Portman Road on September 1.

“Last season, we all got to experience how important the games are to the fans, the city and to the whole region.

“We managed to get four points over the two games and the draw in the last minute felt like a win so hopefully we can do well again next season.”

City have already made one new signing this summer, bringing in Argentinian playmaker Emi Buendia, and Farke says he’s confident of making some more additions to his playing personnel very soon.

“It’s quite obvious that we lost some quality players with Josh Murphy, Marley Watkins and James Maddision having to leave the club, as well as our loan players returning to their clubs.

“The last few days have been important for the financial future of the club because it has been very necessary to sell players.

“But now it’s important to pay attention to getting the strongest squad that we can get. I’m confident we will have some additions soon.”
