Ivo Pinto: When we stick together we can be a fantastic team

29 March 2018

Ivo Pinto believes Norwich City are more than capable of beating any side in the league.

The Canaries host high flying Fulham on Friday and while the Portuguese defender recognises the quality in Slavisa Jokanovic’s side, he insists City are capable of getting a result against any team in the league.

Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Pinto said: "I think Fulham, at least in this second round [of fixtures], have been amazing - unbelievable to be honest. The football they play, the way they play and the speed they put into the game - they are in a very good shape. At the moment I think they are the best team in terms of quality, so it will be a tough game.”

Pinto acknowledges that Fulham have quality within their side - Ryan Sessegnon in particular who has 14 goals to his name from the left-wing this season - but the Canaries defender knows the west Londoners have a number of players capable of changing a game.

“Football is team game. You can speak about him [Sessegnon] but you can also speak about [Aleksandar] Mitrovic or Tom Cairney and all the other players, they have a fantastic squad, [Ryan] Fredericks for example is a very good full back.

“As a team you have to do the best you can and if you do that of course the individuals will come up at the end of the game, but we can’t worry about one player.”

City have proved they are capable of matching some of the best teams in the country having taken Chelsea to a replay in the FA Cup and suffering a narrow defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup. Pinto thinks the Canaries can use those experiences to their advantage against the Cottagers.

“When you play Chelsea and Arsenal you are talking about cup games so it is a different atmosphere. I think we showed that when we get everything together we can be a fantastic team.

“Of course when you play against a stronger team or technically a stronger opponent you always go with more focus or try to be as compact as possible like we did against Chelsea and Arsenal.

“But, Fulham is still from the Championship and it is a team that we have to play at our stadium and show them that we can be better than them.

“It is about us. It is about our game, we have to bring both sides [of our game] together, the defensive part and the offensive part. If we do that, I think we can win against Fulham.”
