With a number of games postponed after the adverse weather, only five Norwich City loanees were in action for their respective clubs this weekend.
In Sky Bet League Two, Grimsby Town’s visit to Carlisle United was one of only two matches to survive the treacherous conditions but The Mariners were unable to ease their relegation fears.
Carlisle reigned victorious in a 2-0 victory with goals from Hallam Hope and Mark Ellis but Diallang Jaiyesimi started and finished the match at Brunton Park.
In the National League, the only match to go ahead was down on the south west coast as Ebou Adams and Leyton Orient were edged out 1-0 at Dover Athletic.
Mitch Pinnock’s late goal was the difference, ending Orient’s six-game unbeaten run with Adams once again playing the full 90 minutes.
In the Scottish Cup, Aberdeen were held to a 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock with a replay now set for a week on Tuesday to decide who will go through to the semi-finals.
Graeme Shinnie’s early goal was cancelled out by Kris Boyd’s second half penalty, with Kenny McLean playing the full 90 minutes for The Dons.
Elsewhere in the same competition, Steven Naismith featured for Hearts but they were knocked out after a defeat to Motherwell.
Ex-City striker Kyle Lafferty equalised for Hearts after Curtis Main had opened the scoring but Carl McHugh netted a late winner to put Motherwell through.
Rangers made it through to the semi-finals after a 4-1 thrashing of Falkirk with Russell Martin an unused substitute at Ibrox.
In Germany, Marcel Franke played 90 minutes but couldn’t prevent Dynamo Dresden being beaten 2-0 at home to SV Darmstadt.
And in the Netherlands, Todd Cantwell’s Fortuna Sittard take on local rivals MVV Maastricht this evening in the Eerste Divisie.
