Former City shot-stopper Andy Marshall is the latest name to be revealed for the Norwich City Legends team for the match against Inter Forever, on May 20.
The Barry Butler Memorial Trophy winner made over 200 appearances for the Canaries, in 17 years at the Club.
The match against Inter Forever, proudly supported by club Community Partner Aviva, takes place on Sunday May 20, and will mark 25 years since Norwich City’s historic UEFA Cup run.
Marshall will join a number of former teammates, including Bryan Gunn and Darren Eadie, for the game, which will raise funds for the Community Sports Foundation’s new hub, ‘The Nest’.
A trainee with the club since the aged of 10, Marshall’s breakout moment came in December 1994, following an injury to Bryan Gunn. As first-choice backup, he was thrust into the limelight for the remainder of the Premier League campaign.
Over 200 appearances for the Canaries followed in the years to come, but it was a controversial move to Ipswich Town in the summer of 2001, just months after lifting the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy, that many City fans remember Marshall for.
Marshall, now 43, said he was looking forward to returning to Carrow Road, even if it meant playing the role of pantomime villain.
“I think I should come out in a mask and a gown, and make the old chuckling noises! In all seriousness, it’s been a few years since I’ve been back at Carrow Road, but it’s something I’m really looking forward to. I’m sure the Norwich fans will welcome me warmly, in their usual manner!
“The game isn’t just about Norwich City Football Club, or Inter Forever, it’s about bringing everyone together and raising money for a great cause. I’m hoping we can pack out the stadium.”
Marshall’s announcement follows the news yesterday that the manager for City’s UEFA Cup run, Mike Walker, will be returning to the Carrow Road touchline for the game.
