City boss Daniel Farke said it was embarrassing to concede five times as the Canaries ended the season on the end of a heavy defeat.
Norwich missed several chances and gifted Sheffield Wednesday several of their goals as they went down 5-1 at Hillsborough.
“It was embarrassing,” Farke told the media. “We can’t speak about positives today, because you can’t do that after conceding five goals. It’s a ridiculous result and we are responsible for this and our defending behaviour was really poor today.
“We made many, many easy mistakes and that’s the reason we lost today.”
Although City controlled possession, two poor goals to concede gave Wednesday a 2-0 lead at half-time.
“At half-time we knew we’d dominated the game and had the better chances and were losing 2-0,” Farke said. “We were not able to score out of our situations and they were.
“We haven’t taken our big chances all season. Our effectiveness is not good enough to finish our chances. We should have scored three at least today. But our defending behaviour was just not good enough and it was embarrassing.”
James Maddison went off injured after just eight minutes and was on crutches at the end of the match, and Farke hopes the scans bring positive news.
“We’ll have to wait. Hopefully it won’t be too bad, but we’ll see what the scans say. It doesn’t look too good and he doesn’t feel comfortable with his knee but we have to look what the scans say.”
