The Norwich City Legends squad has been finalised for Sunday’s match against Inter Forever (Carrow Road, KO 2pm), with the addition of three members from City’s famous 1993-94 UEFA Cup squad.
Efan Ekoku, Ade Akinbiyi and Lee Power will reunite with then-manager Mike Walker, and a host of former teammates, for the charity fundraiser.
The match against Inter Forever, proudly supported by club Community Partner Aviva, marks 25 years since Mike Walker’s Canaries made a memorable run in the UEFA Cup. The game will raise funds to build the Community Sports Foundation’s new sports hub, ‘The Nest’.
Efan Ekoku, who will be a non-playing member of the team due to a long-standing injury, was famously the scorer of the first goal in European competition for the Canaries, with his strike against Vitesse Arnhem in the first round of the cup.
The striker continued his scoring form that season, including a memorable four goals in 25 minutes against Everton at Goodison Park.
A trainee with the club, fellow Nigerian international Ade Akinbiyi made his professional debut as a substitute in the second leg of City’s victorious tie with German powerhouses Bayern Munich.
The striker went on to make a further 50 appearances for the Canaries, before a number of successful spells at clubs including Gillingham, Wolves, Leicester City, Stoke City and Burnley.
Lee Power, also a graduate of City’s youth systems, became the youngest Canary to score twice in a first division match with his brace against QPR in 1990. He featured in both games against Inter Milan as a second-half substitute.
With the three new additions comes the news of two pull-outs from the City squad: Chris Sutton, due to Scottish TV broadcasting commitments, and Lee Croft, who unfortunately sustained a hamstring injury in a charity match in Wigan last weekend.
Today’s squad updates means that both squads have now been finalised for Sunday’s Carrow Road fundraiser (KO 2pm), and are as follows:
