Inter Forever finalise Sunday’s squad with five new additions

16 May 2018

Inter Forever have finalised their squad for Sunday’s match against Norwich City Legends with the addition of five former Nerazzurri players, all former internationals.

Mikael Silvestre, Ousmane Dabo and Sebastien Frey each represented France during their careers.

Former Honduran international David Suazo will support Jurgen Klinsmann up front for Inter, with Moroccan Houssine Kharja bolstering the side’s midfield.

The five additions mean the Inter Forever squad is now set for Sunday’s Carrow Road fundraiser (KO 2pm).

A Champions League and four-time Premier League winner with Manchester United, Mikael Silvestre spent 11 years in English football.

He made 31 appearances for Inter Milan, before being signed by Alex Ferguson in 1999. Silvestre will serve as an able replacement for Brazilian international Maicon, who has had to withdraw from the Sunday’s game due to personal reasons.

Fellow Frenchman Ousmane Dabo, who was signed from Stade Rennes by Inter Milan in 1998 with Silvestre, also enjoyed time in the Premier League, with two years at Manchester City.

He experienced two Coppa Italia-winning seasons at Lazio, as well as spells at fellow Serie A clubs Parma and Atalanta.

Regarded as one of the best Serie A goalkeepers of his generation, Sebastien Frey made 35 appearances for Inter Milan between 1998-2001.

Following Toldo’s arrival at Inter in 2001, Frey joined Parma to serve as the replacement for Gianluigi Buffon, who had transferred to Juventus for the world-record goalkeeper’s transfer fee.

He made over 150 appearances for Parma, before racking up over 200 appearances for Fiorentina, where his performances earned him a spot in France’s Euro 2008 squad.

Tricky attacking midfielder Houssine Kharja spent most of his career in Serie A, playing for clubs including Piacenza, Siena, Genoa and Fiorentina, as well as making 18 appearances for Inter Milan in their Coppa Italia-winning season of 2011.

A Moroccan international, Kharja played 78 times for the Atlas Lions, scoring 13 goals, including three in the 2012 African Cup of Nations, for which he was named in the team of the tournament.

Nicknamed The Panther, prolific Honduran striker David Suazo netted over 100 league goals in Italy.

His best season was in 2006 when he broke the Cagliari club record for top-flight goals in a single season (23), and he was subsequently named the Serie A Foreign Football of the Year.

Signed by Roberto Mancini in 2007, Suazo scored 10 times for Inter in a four-year spell at the Club, which saw them win the Champions League, two Serie A titles, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Coppa Italia.

He represented Honduras 57 times, including the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and scored 17 times.

Sunday match against Norwich City Legends, proudly supported by club Community Partner Aviva, marks 25 years since Mike Walker’s Canaries made a memorable run in the UEFA Cup. The game will raise funds to the build the Community Sports Foundation’s new sports hub, ‘The Nest’.

Today’s five additions join a glittering cast for Inter Forever, that includes Jurgen Klinsmann, Javier Zanetti, Marco Materazzi, Francesco Toldo, Giorgos Karagounis, Giuseppe Baresi, Francesco Colonnese and three original members of Inter Milan’s 1993 UEFA Cup-winning squad: Nicola Berti, Alessandro Bianchi and Massimo Paganin.

The side will be coached by Italian international defender Riccardo Ferri, who played over 300 times for Inter Milan in the ’80s and early ’90s.
