Meet the opposition

Aston Villa recently appointed Dean Smith as their new head coach, with former Chelsea defender John Terry as his assistant.

Smith joined the club from Brentford, where he led his team to top-10 finishes in the Championship in each of his three seasons as boss.

Villa where relegated from the Premier League in 2016, but reached the Championship play-off final in May when they lost to Fulham and missed out on a return to the top flight.

Villa won their first game under Smith at the weekend against Swansea, and prior to that only picked up two points in their previous four Championship games, losing to Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday, while picking up draws against Preston North End and Bristol City.

The last time City played Aston Villa was at home in April, when Norwich beat the visitors 3-1 with goals from Josh Murphy, Dennis Srbeny and James Maddison.
