Teemu Pukki thanked the Norwich City staff and his teammates after being crowned the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season.
Pukki was handed the award at the annual EFL Awards night in London ahead of Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp and Birmingham City’s Che Adams.
Speaking to canaries.co.uk after receiving his trophy, Pukki said: “It feels good. It’s been a great season and it shows I’ve done something right.
“No, for sure [I didn’t expect to win]. I believed in myself that I could do well in this league but obviously it’s been a great, great season. I didn’t believe I could be here.
“Obviously, [I would like to thank] all the staff around Norwich City and my teammates. They are the ones who make it easy for me. I just need to be in the right place at the right time."
Pukki was nominated alongside Sharp and Adams after the 24 managers in the Championship voted on who they thought was the best in the division.
And 19-person expert panel decided that Pukki was worthy of becoming the first City player since the awards began in 2006 to win the award.
“They know how football works and obviously they have been around a long time, so it means a lot to come from them.”
