Norwich City midfielder Ibrahim Amadou has outlined the importance of winning the midfield battle against a strong Leicester City side this weekend.
“Leicester will be difficult because they’re a good team, but I think we can do something. They won their last eight games so we will try to stop them. We will need to be compact and fight for everyone. I think it’s possible. Against Manchester City, everyone said it was finished and we would lose, but we won the game.
“I don’t know James Maddison very well, but I know he is very good. Leicester have a lot of good players in midfield, so we need to fight against them.”
Discussing the last game, Amadou said that Norwich can take confidence from the first half performance against Sheffield United.
“After the game against Everton, we were more confident,” he added. “When we lost against Sheffield United, it wasn’t easy for us. We know we have good players. I think we need to win more games to help the confidence to be better.
“Confidence is important for the group. When we lose it’s difficult, so we need to keep trying. I hope we win more games.
“We played very well in the first half against Sheffield United but lost the game in ten minutes. We need to keep playing like we did in the first half. “
As for his preferred position, Amadou insists he is keen to play in central defensive midfield, as he has for much of his career, but is happy to do a shift at centre-back when called upon.
“Normally I play in defensive midfield rather than centre-back, but the coach needed me to cover that area,” he said. “I prefer playing in midfield, but I hope I help the team in defence. It’s not easy. We had a lot of injuries and I try to help my team.”
