Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki has received nominations for two prestigious awards at this year’s Finland Sports Gala (Finland Urheilugaala).
The scorer of 23 goals this calendar year for the Canaries, he was instrumental in firing the club to the Sky Bet Championship title in May and back to the Premier League.
He also helped Finland qualify for their first major tournament in November as the Huuhkajat beat Liechtenstein 3-0 in Helsinki to book their spot at EURO 2020.
He scored ten goals in qualifying which was only bettered by three other players - Eran Zahavi (Israel), Harry Kane (England) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal).
Pukki’s nominations have come in the “Athlete of the Year” and “Sporting Moment of the Year” categories.
If Pukki wins the Athlete of the Year award, he’ll join an illustrious list of Finnish sporting icons to have won it including legendary footballers Jari Litmanen and Sami Hyypia, and two-time Formula One world champion Mika Hakkinen.
He has two nominations in the Sporting Moment of the Year category for his part in the qualification-sealer against Liechtenstein and hat-trick against Newcastle United at Carrow Road back in August.
