Max Aarons signs new five-year contract with Norwich City

17 July 2019

Norwich City are delighted to announce that Max Aarons has committed his future to the Club, signing a new five-year deal.

The 19-year-old broke into the first-team at the beginning of last season and went on to become one of the stars of the Championship.

He was named EFL Young Player of the Season at the end of the year after a string of consistent, impressive performances in the right-back position for the Canaries.

He made 43 appearances in all competitions, with 41 coming in City’s title-winning Sky Bet Championship year.

“I’m delighted,” said Aarons to canaries.co.uk. “Obviously it’s been a brilliant season for me personally and the team and to top it off with the new contract is brilliant.

“The Club has shown a lot of faith in me since I first joined the first-team setup. For them to reward me with a new deal is brilliant.

“The progress [I’ve made] has been massive and gone really quickly. To think I was sat signing my first professional deal this time last year and being here now, it’s brilliant.

“Like I’ve said many times, I had goals but I didn’t foresee them being anything like how it was last season.”

Aarons made his league debut in the East Anglian derby at Portman Road back on September 2, 2018.

The Academy product instantly impressed the staff at Carrow Road with his mature performance and eventually went on to feature in every Championship game for the remainder of the season.

Aarons believes City Head Coach Daniel Farke deserves huge credit for giving him the opportunity.

“I was very nervous [before making my debut] but I thought I was ready and I believed in myself. I backed myself in that game and I knew I needed to grab my chance with both hands. I like to think that I did that.

“Credit to the Boss for giving me the opportunity to play every week. It has given me a lot to learn in a tough league, the Championship is a hard league with a lot of games.

“It’s made me stronger. I’ve come on a lot as a player – when I watch my first game back at Ipswich to now, my game has developed a lot.”

Aarons is now eager to test himself in the top-flight with a Club he thoroughly enjoys playing at.

“As a player, you want to test yourself at the highest level. What better way to start away at Liverpool and it will be a challenge but there is more to be gained.

“We’ll go there with confidence and everyone had felt good in pre-season. By the time that first game comes, we’ll be ready.”
