Academy players called up for international duty

Ten young Canaries have been awarded international call-ups to represent their countries in the international break following impressive performances for Norwich City’s Academy.

The first of these call-ups is Andrew Omobamidele. The U23s defender has been called up to the Republic of Ireland’s U19s squad to play in UEFA EURO Under-19s 2020 qualifiers. The Republic of Ireland play Switzerland on Thursday, November 14 (12pm kick-off), Gibraltar on Saturday, November 16 (12pm kick-off) and Austria on Tuesday, November 19 (1:30pm kick-off).

Under-23s teammate Daniel Adshead has had a call-up to England’s U19s squad to also feature in the UEFA EURO Under-19s 2020 qualifiers. England play Luxembourg on Wednesday, November 13 (12pm kick-off), North Macedonia on Saturday, November 16 (12pm kick-off) and Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday, November 19 (12pm kick-off).

Heading overseas is Isak Thorvaldsson, the 18-year-old features heavily in the Canaries U23s as captain of the side, as well as captaining Iceland’s U19 national side. Thorvaldsson will be hoping to help his side kick of their UEFA EURO Under-19s 2020 qualifiers in fashion, as they face Belgium on Wednesday, November 13 (1:30pm kick-off), Greece on Saturday, November 16 (6:30pm kick-off) and Albania on Tuesday, November 19 (1:30pm kick-off).

Also kicking-off their UEFA EURO Under-19s 2020 qualifier are Wales, who have called upon City loanee and Bury Town ‘keeper, Daniel Barden. Wales are fighting for qualification as they play Poland on Wednesday, November 13 (1pm kick-off), Russia on Saturday November 16 (1pm kick-off) and Kosovo on Tuesday, November 19 (1pm kick-off).

Keeping in theme, Simon Power has been called up from the provisional squad to the final Republic of Ireland team for their UEFA EURO Under-21s 2020 qualifier. The Republic of Ireland play Armenia on Thursday, November 14 (12pm kick-off) and Sweden on Tuesday, November 19 (8pm kick-off).

Rob Nizet has been called-up for a training camp with Belgium U18s, as they participate in international friendlies against the Czech Republic on Friday, November 15 and Russia on Saturday, November 16.

The same could be said for Jonathan Tomkinson, who has been called-up for a training camp with the USA U17s, potentially featuring in their international friendlies against the Netherlands and Turkey.

Josh Giurgi and Tony Springett are in each other’s company as they join the Republic of Ireland U18s for a training camp throughout the international break.

Finally, U18s defender Ethen Vaughan has made his name in the provisional Wales squad, ready to be called up at any point.
