International Preview: Pukki called up for pivotal qualifiers

13 November 2019

Teemu Pukki has been awarded an international call-up and could prove to be a vital asset for Finland in their upcoming games in UEFA EURO qualifiers following impressive performances for Norwich.

Finland currently sit 2nd in Group J of the qualifiers, with 15 points. Italy have already booked their place to the Euros, meaning just one spot remains. Finland are currently five points clear of Armenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, needing just two points to guarantee their qualification. If Finland were to qualify, it would be the first time in their history that they've made it to a major tournament.

Turning attention to Northern Ireland, Jamal Lewis and Michael McGovern have received international call-ups to assist in their pursuit of qualification in Group C of the UEFA Euro qualifiers. Northern Ireland currently sit 3rd in Group C of the qualifiers with 12 points, just three points behind the Netherlands and Germany, leaving qualification still up for grabs.

Elsewhere, Kenny McLean has earnt an international call-up to Scotland, and could feature in their UEFA Euro qualifiers. Scotland currently sit 4th in Group I of the qualifiers with nine points, however Belgium and Russia have already booked their places in the tournament, leaving the rest of the group playing without qualification on the line.

At Under-21s level, Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey have been included in the England U21s squad for their upcoming fixtures in the international break. England play Albania in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers on Friday, November 15 (6pm kick-off), before playing the Netherlands in a friendly on Tuesday, November 19.

Finally, Adam Idah has been awarded an international call-up to feature in the Republic of Ireland’s Under-21s squad, potentially featuring in their upcoming UEFA Under-21 European Championship qualifiers against Armenia on Thursday, November 14 (12pm kick-off) and Sweden on Tuesday, November 19 (8pm kick-off).
