It was a memorable Monday night for City trio Ben Godfrey, Max Aarons and Todd Cantwell as they all featured to help England Under-21s triumph against Kosovo in UEFA European Championship qualifying.
Godfrey, captaining the side at the KCOM Stadium in Hull, started the fixture alongside Aarons with Cantwell coming on as a substitute just after the hour mark.
Manchester City’s Phil Foden scored a goal in each half as England made it two wins from two in Group 3.
However, the match ended on a sour note from a City perspective with Aarons coming off through injury on 80 minutes.
Elsewhere, Jamal Lewis played 90 minutes as Northern Ireland narrowly lost to Germany on home soil.
Michael O’Neill’s team more than held their own against the 2014 world champions and created plenty of goalscoring opportunities throughout, but they were beaten by second-half goals from Marcel Halstenberg and Serge Gnabry.
It was a disappointing night at Hampden Park for Scotland as they were beaten 4-0 by Belgium. Kenny McLean played the full 90 minutes of the defeat.
Earlier in the day, Archie Mair and Aidan Fitzpatrick both featured for Scotland’s Under-19s in the 3-2 friendly defeat to Japan.
Dan Adshead was part of the England Under-19s squad which lost 1-0 to Germany, also in a friendly.
