Loan Round-Up: Morris and Oxborough star for their clubs

16 September 2019

Carlton Morris notched his first and second goals in Rotherham United colours on Saturday as the Millers thrashed Bolton Wanderers 6-1 at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

A new-look Bolton side took the lead early on through Stoke loanee Thibaud Verlinden but Rotherham soon roared back and totally overpowered their opponents to win handsomely.

Morris netted either side of the break and was then replaced on 67 minutes by boss Paul Warne. The victory moves the Millers up to 13th in League One.

Elsewhere, Aston Oxborough put in a man-of-the-match display as Wealdstone continued to set the pace at the top of the National League South.

Oxborough once again impressed and his display helped Wealdstone extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points.

In Holland, Charlie Gilmour once again played 90 minutes as SC Telstar beat MVV Maastricht 2-1 in the Eerste Divisie, their first victory in three matches.

Gilmour has played every minute for the Dutch side so far this season.

In the USL Championship Eastern Conference, Caleb Richards continued his run in the Tampa Bay Rowdies starting eleven in their 1-1 draw with Atlanta United 2.

With six games to go, the title race is set for a dramatic climax. The Rowdies are currently third and just three points behind league leaders New York Red Bulls II.

Back in League One, James Husband played the full 90 minutes in Blackpool’s disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Milton Keynes Dons. Canaries legend Russell Martin was on the scoresheet for the Dons at Bloomfield Road.

In League Two, Mason Bloomfield came on as 62nd minute substitute in Crawley Town’s 1-0 victory over Mansfield Town.

Bez Lubala got the only goal of the game at the People’s Pensions Stadium.

In Scotland, Josh Coley was introduced as a 72nd minute substitute as Dunfermline Athletic lost 1-0 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Closer to home, Sean Raggett played 90 minutes of Portsmouth’s 3-1 victory over Norwich City Under-21s in the Trophy.
