Teemu Pukki has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for August, following an impressive start to the 2019-20 season.
The other nominations for the Player of the Month award are Sergio Aguero, Ashley Barnes, Kevin De Bruyne, Roberto Firmino and Raheem Sterling.
Pukki has already scooped up the PFA Player of the Month award for August.
Kicking off the season with a brilliant run of five goals and one assist in four matches, Pukki has been the talk of Premier League pundits and spectators alike in the 2019-20 campaign’s opening weeks, and the statistics indicate that this should come as no surprise.
Naturally, the sample size is small, but in City’s opening four Premier League matches, Pukki has increased his average shots per game to 3.5 from last season’s 3.3. He hasn’t just become more willing to let fly in front of goal, he’s been more accurate with his efforts too.
An average of 2.8 of his shots per game are on target, a significant increase on last season’s 1.3. Combined with the fact that the Finnish international is also taking more shots from inside the penalty area (3.3 compared to 2.5 last season) and less outside the box, it’s no surprise to see the prolific forward enjoying such an excellent start to his career in England’s top flight, with a goal coming from him every 71 minutes he’s on the pitch.
But Pukki’s game isn’t just about scoring goals. His 77.5% pass success rate is up 2.1% on last season, and in his outstanding performance at home to Newcastle United, he completed a perfect ten out of ten successful passes, when he wasn’t busy scoring a hat-trick.
Pukki hasn’t gone un-noticed from a defensive point of view either, having made four tackles, one interception, two clearances, and blocking one shot.
