Tom Scully said he thoroughly enjoyed his first taste of Leasing.com Trophy experience and added he’s already looking forward to more of the same type of tests.
The Canaries ran their Sky Bet League One opponents Oxford United very close at the Kassam Stadium, taking the lead just after the hour mark through Shae Hutchinson.
However, Oxford rallied late on to take all three points but a young City side headed back to Norfolk with their heads held high.
Speaking post-match, midfielder Scully said: “We are disappointed because we played well. It’s our first test in this tournament and some of the lads are under 18 – the bench didn’t have an 18-year-old on it.
“Apart from Akin [Famewo] at the back, that was the first of this type of game for a lot of us. We all enjoyed it to be fair.
“It was a good turnout and I would like to thank the Norwich fans for coming out, there was a lot of them.
“We have to get used to the physicality of men’s football. People like me and Shae up top, we were playing against 25 year olds at the back.
“It’s something we’ve got to learn about but it was a good experience.”
Scully has enjoyed a solid start to his second season with the Club and is hoping to solidify his place in David Wright’s starting eleven.
“I hope I can keep my place. I’ve played the last few games with our full-strength team. But the young lads who have come in have done well.
“Portsmouth will probably be bigger and better than this. So, we cannot wait for that.”
