Norwich City is delighted to highlight our third weekly Community Hero, showcasing the story of those special individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Lucy Dawson, 5, has been nominated for her incredible effort of lifting neighbours’ spirits during this difficult time by making hand crafted flowers and leaving them on doorsteps.
Lucy’s mum, Shelley said; “I’m very proud of Lucy. She started off making them to be creative but then wanted to bring a smile to her neighbours, so she came up with the idea of handing them out. When we were on our daily exercise, we left them on people’s doorsteps with a little note from Lucy.
“She’s very crafty and a caring little girl. Her grandad lives next door and we can’t see him at the moment, so she tends to leave handmade gifts on his doorstep to make him smile as she misses him a lot.”
Lucy’s kind gesture resulted in receiving thank you gifts and notes from neighbours. One note was wrapped around a chocolate bar which said, ‘This is just a little thank you from us, it really made us smile and we really needed that today.’
Speaking about why she wanted to hand out flowers, Lucy told canaries.co.uk: “I wanted to cheer people up during the coronavirus lockdown. I felt happy and proud that I helped to cheer people up, it gave me happy tears.”
“I am extremely proud of what Lucy has done for our neighbours. The look on her face when she received the thank you notes is something me and my wife will never forget.
“Lucy has struggled not being able to see her friends, so this news has made her very happy and we can’t wait for Lucy to attend her first game at Carrow Road,” said Lucy’s dad Marc.
For the upcoming period the club would like to highlight a special Community Hero each week, championing the story of those special individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty during these challenging times.
There are no restrictions as to who can nominate or be nominated. If there is anyone that you think deserves special recognition, whether the individual works in the emergency services, is a carer or charity champion - nominate someone by filling in the form today!
