Norwich City is delighted to highlight our fourth weekly Community Hero, showcasing the story of those special individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Toby Griffiths, 10, has been nominated for his incredible effort of running a marathon for the NHS on his driveway during this difficult time.
On his tenth birthday on Saturday, April 25th, Canaries fan and Norwich City PDC player Toby completed his target of running a marathon (26 miles) in his driveway. The family set up a JustGiving page to help raise money for the NHS and have smashed their original target of £100.
“This is the first time I have run a marathon. I’ve been running 2.5miles a day since April 12 and completed it on my tenth birthday yesterday.
“My target was £100 and we have now raised over £1000 from the support from my family and friends. It’s made me feel overwhelmed and so amazing that we have raised so much money,” said Toby.
Toby’s mother, Kelly Griffiths said; “I’m very proud. Two days after he came up with the idea he started running and didn’t even question the idea. He was getting itchy feet and is an active boy so this been a great challenge!
“The donations started off with just family but has spread from strangers donating to Toby which has been incredible. We’ve had lovely messages of support from people within Norfolk and have even had a lady from Canada donate.
“We all would just like to say a great big thank you – he didn’t set out to raise this much money. Every time he checks the JustGiving page in the morning, his eyes light up so just a big thank you to everyone who has supported him and donated generously for such a great cause.”
