It might not be his first season in the Premier League, but it certainly is his first season as a Canary for Sam Byram, who has stepped up to the plate on multiple occasions throughout the campaign.
Joining from West Ham, Byram has impressed many during his short time at City so far, showing both attacking and defensive quality week-in-week-out, but what are his best performances this season? Here’s his top three… ⬇
3. Newcastle (A)
There might not have been any goals in this clash against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle, but one thing is for certain, it was a very competitive game.
Both sides ‘keepers were on top form as they consistently kept the opposing sides at bay, but that didn’t stop Byram putting in a great performance. Early in the first-half, it was Byram who tested Martin Dúbravka’s reflexes with a close bullet header, after catching Ondrej Duda’s corner perfectly.
Byram both created chances as well as stopping them at the other end. Whilst he was unlucky to not get a goal, or even an assist, putting a shift in for the full 90 minutes meant he earnt himself a 7.35 rating from Whoscored.com.
2. Bournemouth (H)
A big home win and a big performance from Byram. Admittedly, every City player was on their best form in this game, as the Canaries fended off Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth to take a vital three points in the fight to escape relegation, but Byram showed his class throughout regardless.
Seeing Ben Godfrey sent off forced Daniel Farke into making a defensive sub, bringing off Ondrej Duda for Grant Hanley. This put the pressure on City that little bit more, with less attacking players it seemed like they were just to defend with their lives until the final whistle.
Although not so dramatic as first thought, as a sub-par Bournemouth were down to ten men themselves, Byram still played out of his skin, keeping the sideline locked down under his watchful eye.
Less attacking in this fixture but allowing him to put on an even better defensive showing, Byram was handed a 7.66 rating for this game by Whoscored.com, not too far off his best game all season.
1. Manchester City (H)
Byram’s best game of the season back when we beat the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, quite a game to have your best performance all season on!
Playing his natural right-back position in place of Max Aarons, as opposed to the left side of the pitch we’ve all grown so familiar to see, Byram was an extremely important cog in what was a well-oiled machine on that memorable day.
Demonstrating his composure under pressure to get out of tight spots forced by the Man City high press, as well as his defensive work rate, Byram put on a flashy performance that any Canaries fan would rate highly.
After his big contribution to topple Pep Guardiola’s City side, Byram earnt himself a season’s high of 7.74 from Whoscored.com
