Pukki and Hugill secure third pre-season win

26 August 2020

Norwich City maintained their perfect pre-season record with victory over German third tier side Dynamo Dresden at Delbrucker Sport-Club.

Teemu Pukki netted the opener, collecting Marco Stiepermann’s through ball before converting into the bottom corner.

And a first appearance in yellow for summer recruit Jordan Hugill was capped with a neat finish over the goalkeeper following Danel Sinani’s pass.

In truth much of the game was hampered by a bobbly playing surface and swirling wind, but it now means City have three wins and three clean sheets to their name.

City started the game well and took a deserved lead on 12 minutes.

Marco Stiepermann assumed possession between the Dresden lines, before slipping a clever ball into Pukki. The Finland international skipped into the right channel before finishing low under the onrushing goalkeeper.

Yannick Stark arrowed a volley wide after City had cleared a swirling Dresden set piece, but for the most part it was City dominating the ball.

But for all their possession, clear chances in the attacking third were few and far between in the run up to the half time interval.

Xavi Quintilla saw a placed effort gloved away following a mazy run across the face of the penalty area by Josh Martin.

The Canaries once again rang the changes at half time, with Ben Godfrey the only player to retain his place in the 11 for the second half. Recent recruit Jordan Hugill was one of those introduced.

Any ebb and flow after the restart was severely hampered by a bobbly pitch and blustery weather conditions.

Panagiotis Vlachodimos played a neat give and go on the edge of the City area but failed to find the target with an ambitious first-time effort.

Hugill looped a header into the arms of the goalkeeper following a left-wing cross, but otherwise much of the second period passed with little to note.

But Hugill did eventually find the target in the final throes, clipping a neat finish over the goalkeeper after being sent in the clear by Sinani to secure a two-goal victory for Daniel Farke’s side.
