Norwich City’s Under-23s will take on League One side Portsmouth as part of their preparations for the new season on Saturday.
Preparing themselves for the 2020-21 Premier League 2 season, the U23s side will take on Pompey at a neutral venue behind-closed-doors.
The match will kick-off at 10:30am on Saturday, August 15.
The U23s finished 11th in their Premier League 2 campaign last season, three points behind ninth-place Reading with a game in hand.
Under-23s coach David Wright spoke fondly of the upcoming pre-season fixture, saying: “Portsmouth are a tough side, we played them in the Leasing.com Trophy and they got very close to promotion, so they’re a very good and strong team.
“Kenny [Jackett] is an excellent coach and has been a very, very good manager for many years. It’s going to be a real difficult game, physically and tactically.
“It’ll be good for the boys and for us to sit back and watch them against such a good standard of play. We'll then get an indication of where our boys are at on their journey compared to seasoned pros. We’re really looking forward to it.
“It’s a pre-season game, so I don’t think the intensity will be the same as when we played them in the cup, but it’ll still be very good and they’re a squad full of seasoned professionals, all of which are very experienced.
“The boys will be really excited; they should be looking forward to going up against players of that standard and testing themselves to see where they are in their journey.
“There’ll be loads of questions going into the game and fingers crossed all the players will get a real good run out with no injuries and we start the season off really positively.”
Following government guidelines, no spectators will be permitted at the venue, but you can follow all the action of the game on our dedicated Academy Twitter account.
