Norwich City made their ninth signing of the summer in Xavi Quintilla on Tuesday morning.
The Spaniard, on loan from Villarreal for the 2020-21 season, sat down with canaries.co.uk for his first club interview to tell us a bit more about himself.
canaries.co.uk: Xavi, congratulations and welcome to Norwich City. Tell us how happy you are to become a Norwich City player.
XQ: Thank you for your welcome. I’m so happy and proud to be here and to play for Norwich in England and in the Championship.
canaries.co.uk: What have the last few days been like? Has there been interest in you from other clubs?
XQ: Yeah, but it was my idea to come here to Norwich. I’m very happy to come and play here. There were complicated days but lovely days because Norwich called me and I’m very proud of that.
canaries.co.uk: What made you choose to join Norwich City?
XQ: My philosophy and my football is similar to Norwich’s. I played before for Villarreal and Barcelona’s academy, and I think Norwich works a bit like them, so it’s great for me.
canaries.co.uk: Have you always wanted to play in England?
XQ: Yeah, I’m very happy to come and play here. I think the Championship is a great league. I’ve seen it from my house in Spain and it’s a hard league. I hope it’s a good year for us.
canaries.co.uk: Was it a tough choice to leave Spain for the first time?
XQ: Yeah, a little bit, but I left my family when I was 12 years old to go to Barcelona and play there. My mother, my father and my brother - they know my work. I’m excited to play here.
canaries.co.uk: What did Stuart Webber and Daniel Farke say to you that made you want to come to the club?
XQ: They spoke about the philosophy and the way this club works, and that’s what I love. I think it will be a great season. I love the philosophy Stuart and Daniel have.
canaries.co.uk: For Norwich fans who haven’t seen you play before, tell us your position and what you can bring to the team.
XQ: I’m a left-back and can play centre-back, but left-back is my first position. I love to attack. I’m very excited to play for the fans. It will be really difficult but I hope fans can be in the stadium with us. I hope we make big things.
canaries.co.uk: What are you hoping to achieve this season, personally and with the team?
XQ: I come here to play as many minutes as possible. It’s a hard league with many matches, so all the players who stay here will play. I’d love to play every minute. We want to play good football for the fans to see. I would love to play in the Premier League, so I will do everything possible to get Norwich into the top league.
canaries.co.uk: Have you had the chance to meet any of your teammates?
XQ: Yeah, I met some of them. I know Emi Buendia from Spain. I met the team and the staff and they gave me a nice welcome.
