Michael McGovern and the four defenders in front of him will no doubt have been delighted with Saturday’s clean sheet, but they have the midfielders and forwards to thank for their contributions too.
Captain Grant Hanley was pleased with the work-rate his team showed from a defensive point of view against Cardiff.
“Micky made some great saves so it’s always good to have someone behind you who’s capable of that,” he added. “It’s not just defenders who are doing well. We defended as a team, so it’s important to do the job collectively and be professional and we’ve done that today.”
Having previously gone ten games unbeaten, City have now won the last five games in a row, scoring two goals in each.
“It’s important, when you’re on a run, to keep that momentum going and keep picking up three points, so we’re pleased today,” Hanley said.
“We felt pretty comfortable, given that it was always going to be a tough game in terms of their style of play and how physical they are from set-pieces, but I think we managed the game pretty well and are maybe a wee bit disappointed we didn’t score more.
“Everybody feels like they’ve got a chance in the Championship. We just need to keep ticking them off and putting that level of performance in, then we’ll hopefully get the results and points we’re looking for.
“It’s enjoyable to play with the lads because they’re good players and good lads. Whoever is available for selection, they’ll give it their all.”
