Match Preview: Luton Town v Norwich City

1 December 2020

Norwich City travel to Kenilworth Road for the second time this season for Wednesday night’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Luton Town (7.45pm KO).

Our Match Preview gives you a brief overview of the Hatters’ season so far, the officials in charge of the match, and how you can follow the action live from home.

The opposition

A few eyebrows were raised by Luton’s strong start to the season, having finished 19th in the Championship in 2019-20.

After beating Norwich in the first round of the Carabao Cup, Luton won three of their opening four league fixtures - form that saw them in the play-off positions come mid-October.

But since a 2-0 defeat to Stoke City, Luton have won just two of the nine league games, drawing four and losing three.

Most recently, following a trio of 1-1 draws, the Hatters were thumped 4-0 at Cardiff City.

A record of five wins, four draws and five defeats from the opening 14 games sees Luton sit perfectly mid-table - 12th in the Championship.

There have been 75 meetings between Norwich and Luton since 1920, resulting in 29 Norwich wins, 27 Luton wins and 17 draws.

Last time we met, a James Collins hat-trick secured Luton’s advancement to the second round of the Carabao Cup, while Kieran Dowell scored on his competitive debut for City.

Our previous win at Kenilworth Road came in the Championship in 2007, when Simon Lappin’s 90th minute winner brought three hard-fought points back to Norfolk.

Ref watch

Darren England has been appointed to take charge of Wednesday’s match, Nick Hopton and Mark Scholes his assistants and John Busby the fourth official.

England last took charge of a Norwich game for our 1-0 win at home to Swansea City in November, when Marco Stiepermann’s late winner was the decider.
