Norwich City 2-2 Sheffield Wednesday
April 19, 2019
What was on the line?
Promotion to the Premier League. A place in the play-offs had already been secured following an outstanding season under Daniel Farke, but Sheffield United and Leeds United were chasing City for the automatic promotion spots.
As for Sheffield Wednesday, there was still a faint glimmer of sneaking into the play-offs, but realistically it looked like it was going to be a respectable mid-table finish to the campaign, with relegation no concern.
How the game unfolded
Marco Stiepermann gave the Canaries the perfect start, scoring in the 19th minute with a shot from the D going into the bottom right corner.
But the away side responded through Fernando Forestieri, who smashed the ball into the top left corner from 30 yards out - an unstoppable strike for 1-1.
Steven Fletcher got on the end of a cross to give Sheffield Wednesday the lead early in the second half, and the score remained 2-1 for some time.
Norwich would never say die in 2018-19, and Vrancic can never be doubted from a dead-ball situation. Seven minutes into stoppage time, the Bosnian curled a free-kick beautifully over the wall and into the top right corner to rescue a point and end the game 2-2.
