Teemu Pukki scored his 50th goal for Norwich City against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, during his 100th appearance for the club, no less!
“It was my plan, when I saw that this was my 100th game and I was two goals behind 50, I really wanted to get it today, so I’m really happy with that, especially because we got the three points from those goals,” he said.
“The first half was pretty good from us. The beginning of the second half, we were struggling a bit and they came back into the game with a goal. Obviously, to get three points from here, where they have a really good team, it’s a good performance from us.
“It feels like I’m scoring all of my goals away from home this season, because teams mostly come to Carrow Road to defend. When they’re playing in their home, they need to show their skill a bit more in the offense, so it opens up for us.
“We have that quality, that if the teams give us space, I know we have guys who will give me those passes.”
Pukki’s first goal came by way of another Canary making a landmark appearance, Alex Tettey reaching the 250 milestone after eight years at the club.
“Alex is a huge legend in Norwich and what a guy he is,” Pukki added. “It was a good pass from him and I’m happy for him to get to 250 games. It’s not often you get that anywhere, so it’s nice to have him as a teammate, for sure.
“At the start of the second half, they scored but we got our goal quite fast after that, so it kind of relaxed the game again for us a little bit. Then, we had to fight to get the three points in the end, but I think those kinds of goals are the nice ones; when you have a bit of luck in them.
“I tried it and saw the ball coming towards me. I just wanted to get a small touch on it to change the direction and it ended up being a pretty perfect touch.”
The win strengthened City’s position at the top of the Championship table, and with more key players set to return from injury soon, there’s plenty to be positive about at the moment.
“It has been a tough time with injuries, but now we have guys coming back like Kenny, Jordan, Todd and others, so it’s important to keep getting these points,” Pukki said. “It’s a long season, so especially after those two tough games where we didn’t win, it’s important to get as many points after that.
“Those guys are important players for us and we’re still missing a couple of guys but we’re on a good way now, getting all our guys back and it’s a good group of guys we have. We just need to keep working.
