Hunt and Fisher become ePL play-off champions!

8 February 2020

Michael Fisher (on PS4) and Harry Hunt (on Xbox One) became the winners of Norwich City’s first ever ePremier League Club Play-offs at Carrow Road on Friday.

The evening began with 16 players – eight on each console – given the chance to go all the way to London’s finals in March.

Fisher, who came into the event as the PS4 favourite with 37 wins from 40 online qualifiers, made short work of his opponents, winning the two-legged group games 10-1 and 4-2, as well as the semi-finals 9-0 and the final 5-1.

On Xbox, the road to the final was a bit less straightforward for Hunt, who won his first group game 7-2 over two legs, before the second – a 3-3 draw – was decided on penalties. In the semis, Hunt edged past his opposition with a 3-2 win, and won his final 4-2.

Both Fisher and Hunt will become the first FIFA players ever to represent Norwich City at the ePremier League Finals across 27-28 March, where they will compete with players from other Premier League clubs to become the coveted ePremier League champion.

Speaking to canaries.co.uk after the event, Fisher said: “It feels amazing and surreal. I can’t wait to go to London. It’s phenomenal and unbelievable to be one of the two first representatives for Norwich City in the ePremier League. Hopefully I can go further and represent the club well, it will always have a special place in my heart.”

Local lad Hunt was also delighted to advance to the finals, saying: “I’m ecstatic because all the hard work is paying off. Thankfully, I scored the first goal in every game which helps. It’s going to be a great feeling to represent Norwich as I’m from Dereham. I can’t wait to do it.”

Gavin Beard, Head of Marketing at Norwich City FC was pleased with the inaugural event, at a time when the eSports industry is growing and growing.

“We’re always thinking about the fan of the future and eSports is an industry that has seen enormous growth,” he said. “It’s an area we’re keen to be involved with. We’re pleased that Harry and Michael will represent us in our inaugural appearance at the ePL grand final in March.”

Fans will be able to watch the broadcast of the grand final on Sky Sports Football or via EA Sports’ Twitch channel across 27-28 March.
