Todd Cantwell says Norwich City need to be more clinical if they are to pick up more points in the Premier League.
City led 1-0 for the majority of their New Year’s Day fixture against Crystal Palace but were denied all three points after Connor Wickham’s late equaliser.
Speaking after the game, Cantwell said: “We’re all very disappointed. It feels like a loss because for pretty much the whole game, we were in the lead.
“We defended so well but to concede a goal right at the end is horrible.
“When we are on top in a game, I think we are just missing that clinical edge. We have to put a couple away and not leave a game so open towards the end.
“If you give a team a chance at 1-0 or 2-1 in the Premier League, they only need a sniff of a chance and they tend to take it."
City have struggled to convert their superiority into points recently but Cantwell believes the fact they’ve shown they can compete in each fixture indicates they aren’t far away.
“It feels a little bit unlucky that these things keep happening. We played well for a large part of the game but again, we only leave with one point," he continued.
“We know that we are good enough. We’ve played against a lot of teams now and I don’t think we need any more confidence.
“We’ve taken it to the very best teams. It’s just that extra 5% more that we need to seal off a game.
“If we seal off games, we’ll get the points that we need to catch teams up quickly.”
Cantwell got the opener at Carrow Road to increase his tally to six this season: “Personally, I’m really enjoying this season. To score goals is something I’ve always wanted to do.
“Being given the opportunity to showcase that in the Premier League is something I’m very grateful for.
“There’s a bigger picture though and that’s the team. We have to find these points.”
