Teemu Pukki turns 30 today and to celebrate we’ve picked nine of our favourite moments from the 🐐’s career in yellow and green!
We hope you have a great day with your family, Teemu!
3-2 down at home to Millwall with 90 minutes played. Jordan Rhodes makes it 3-3 in the 92nd. Into the seventh minute of injury time, step up Teemu Pukki to nab a late, great winner – something that became a theme of City’s 2018-19 campaign!
The three points not only lifted spirits inside Carrow Road, it lifted the Canaries to the top of the Championship too, Pukki’s all-important goal taking Daniel Farke’s side above Leeds United back in November 2018.
Not another one!?
Pukki without late goals was like tea without milk last season! He grabbed another last-minute winner less than a month later at home to Bolton Wanderers!
It looked as though City had thrown away all three points when the visitors came from 2-0 down to equalise in the 88th minute, but, with the score poised at 2-2, the third minute of injury time gave City fans another moment to cherish.
Pukki latched onto a loose ball brilliantly, smashing it into the bottom right corner to send the Barclay wild!
New Year, better me
The turn of the New Year in 2019 brought about even better form for Pukki, who scored eight goals in six matches across January and February.
The opponents on the receiving end were Birmingham City, Sheffield United, Leeds United, Preston North End, and Bolton Wanderers.
But hang on, isn’t that only five matches?
“If he wasn’t already a Carrow Road cult hero, he is now!”
Ah yes, within that six-game run was also the small matter of a brace in the East Anglian Derby!
After Onel Hernandez had put City in front against Ipswich Town in the second minute, Pukki’s double sealed the deal in the second half to put Norwich back on top of the Championship ahead of Leeds.
Pukki was fast becoming a fan favourite in NR1 anyway but scoring twice against the closest rivals certainly didn’t do his reputation any harm!
An incredible 2018-19 season for Pukki was rightfully highlighted with the awarding of the Championship Player of the Season!
29 goals in the league put him four clear of the nearest competitors, Tammy Abraham and Neal Maupay, meaning the Golden Boot could take its place on the mantelpiece at the Pukki household as well!
An astonishing season that Pukki and Norwich fans will never forget.
“Pukki is Premier League class!”
But could he make the step up? Simply put, yes. Pukki did not take long to adjust to life in the Premier League, scoring a hat-trick in our first home game of the season against Newcastle United!
It wasn’t any old hat-trick either. The Finn opened the scoring with a beautiful volley into the top left corner, got his second with a clever strike into the bottom left, before capping it off by sitting Newcastle’s defence down and caressing the ball over the line!
It doesn’t get much better than this for a Premier League striker!
Can it be August every month?
That hat-trick, combined with goals against Liverpool and Chelsea, meant that it wasn’t a difficult choice for the Premier League to award Pukki with their Player of the Month award for August!
Remind yourself how he did it! 👇
David vs Goliath
When reigning champions Manchester City came to town, few from the outside would have given Norwich City a chance given the injury crisis they were in and the financial differences between the two clubs.
That made our 3-2 win against Pep Guardiola’s side even more remarkable, and it was Pukki who got the third to put us 3-1 up after Sergio Aguero had pulled one back.
Pukki developed a habit of scoring against the big teams, including all of the current top four (Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester City and Chelsea) as well as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal!
Attitude off the pitch
We don’t just love Pukki for his goalscoring exploits, but for his personality and sense of humour outside of the game as well! Check out his brutal honesty about his teammates here! 😂
Let’s hope there are many more great moments to come, happy birthday Teemu!
