Community Hero - May 17

17 May 2020

Norwich City is delighted to highlight our seventh weekly Community Hero, showcasing the story of those special individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Sam Proctor, 30, has been nominated for his incredible six week cycling challenge which he has so far covered 2781 minutes, 792 miles and raised over £2500 for the NHS COVID-19 fund.

Triathlete Sam who works at the Victoria Inn at Holkham, has been cycling one minute for every meal the pub/restaurant delivers to hospital staff NHS staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn, as well as meals, estate-grown potatoes and other produce for vulnerable people within the local community.

To date, an average of 600 meals are being delivered weekly, which means a fantastic effort of 10-hours of cycling each Sunday.

The challenge itself takes place in The Orangery at The Victoria Inn, with inspiring views out over the Holkham National Nature reserve.

“The aim has been to set a different route each week, including a virtual ascent of Mount Everest which took place last Sunday. Today is week 5 of the challenge and I will be virtually cycling an NHS Hospital tour which covers 274 miles. The tour will start at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn, then to St Barts, Nightingale, Norfolk and Norwich and then back to Queen Elizabeth Hospital,” said Sam.

Supporters can join Sam for live video streaming this evening from 5pm to 7pm via Holkham’s social media channels to show their support during this week’s challenge.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has joined the calls and who has donated so far. It does really push me every week when I see the donations adding up and everyone’s support has just been great, especially in these hard times.

“The NHS staff are doing such an amazing job on the wards and the meals are helping to brighten up their days, so it’s nice to show our appreciation for them,” adds Sam.

Week 6 will be Sam’s most difficult part of the whole challenge as he will be cycling 600 minutes across six days, securing 600 meals every week until the end of June. Fans call watch this incredible challenge on the Holkham Hall Facebook page.
