In Numbers: Oliver Skipp’s MOTM performance at Huddersfield

14 September 2020

After signing for Norwich City on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, midfielder Oliver Skipp made his league debut for the Canaries to remarkable effect on Saturday afternoon.

Adam Idah rightly grabbed the headlines for his 81st-minute winner, but it was Skipp who won our fan-voted Man of the Match award by some distance.

Playing the full 90 minutes, Skipp boasted an impressive pass completion rate of 93 percent in Huddersfield’s half and 87.5 percent overall, with 28 out of his 32 passes accurately finding their man.

Among the Norwich City players who started the game, only Teemu Pukki had a higher overall pass accuracy rating of 93.3 percent.

Showing off his defensive midfield capabilities, Skipp also made six ball recoveries and won 14 duels. He also drew six fouls, more than any other Norwich player, thus helping to break up the play and present City with set-pieces.

But statistics only tell part of the story. Take a look at the clip below (which starts at 0:51), in which Skipp clears the danger with a cool head in the 18-yard-box, despite having four Terriers around him, before playing a pass that ultimately sends City on the counter-attack.

That short movement alone demonstrates the kind of calmness and composure we’re excited to see from Skipp throughout the 2020/21 season!
