International review: 14 Canaries involved in international action

9 September 2020

The recent international call-ups proved to be a success for multiple Norwich City stars, with many of the 14 earning a wealth of minutes for their respective national sides.

England’s Under-21s saw a host of Canaries lend their services to the Three Lions, with Max Aarons, Todd Cantwell, Ben Godfrey and Tottenham Hotspur loanee Oliver Skipp logging 530 minutes all together.

All four featured in their two wins over in the UEFA Euro U21 qualifiers, City right-back Aarons notched an assist in his time on the pitch facing Kosovo U21s (6-0), whilst Godfrey managed to get himself on the scoresheet against Austria U21s (2-1).

City striker Teemu Pukki featured extensively for Finland in their games against Wales and the Republic of Ireland, missing out on just four minutes of injury time against Stephen Kenny’s Irish side.

Making his international debut, as well as facing off against his City teammate, Adam Idah had an eventful international period. The young striker logged a combined 142 minutes in their 1-1 draw to Bulgaria and 1-0 loss to Finland.

Summer signing Przemyslaw Placheta featured for Poland U21s in the full 90 minutes against Estonia U21s, assisting two, before featuring in the last 20 minutes against Russia U21s days later.

Following a similar run of minutes for Luxembourg, Danel Sinani came on in the 58th minute in the side’s 2-1 win over Azerbaijan, before going on to feature for the full match against Montenegro in a 1-0 home loss.

Kenny McLean played his part in guiding Scotland to a 2-1 win over Czech Republic on Monday night. The midfielder, who recently signed a new contract with the Canaries, played for the full 90 minutes after being an unused sub in the game prior against Israel.

Tim Krul, Michael McGovern and Jacob Sorensen were all unused subs for their respective international teams of the Netherlands, Northern Ireland and Denmark U21s for their international call-ups.

Rocky Bushiri didn't feature in Belgium U21s matchday squad against Germany U21s, while Archie Mair also didn't feature in Scotland U21s 1-0 win over Lithuania U21s.
