Community Hero: Norwich City v Reading

30 April 2021

Norwich City and Fosters Solicitors are delighted to announce Roy Chillers as our Community Hero for Saturday’s final home game of the season against Reading.

Norfolk based charity ‘Friend in Deed’ have nominated Laurel Lodge care home resident (Black Swan care group), Roy Chillers, aged 87, for his loyal support to Norwich City.

Kelly Lindsay, director of Friend in Deed, said: “I first met Roy three years ago at Laurel Lodge. He is a wonderful and delightful man who loves to be involved in all our schemes and activities that we run. Whether our events are held face to face or online, Roy is always wearing his Norwich City shirt!

“The last 18 months has been incredibly tough for older people as they have been much more isolated. Football and Norwich City is very important to Roy, so he was disappointed when football was initially suspended. For Roy to be involved in the last game of the season when Norwich have had another fantastic season will really mean a lot to him.”

Roy added: “I have supported Norwich since I was a boy and had a season ticket for a very long time! Carrow Road is magnificent, it was great watching the games inside the stadium and the atmosphere is always the best.

“The staff here at Laurel Lodge always make sure I watch the games on TV but if this isn’t possible, they sometimes bring their iPad for me to watch it on. We talk all things Norwich City, so I feel very special to be nominated as a Community Hero. On the Ball City!”

Friend in Deed aims to reduce loneliness and promote kindness by working with older people in care homes, offering a range of activities and events that help bring older and younger people together to form friendships across generations.

They work with different types of care facilities for older people including care homes and dementia day services across Norfolk, Cambridge, Essex and Suffolk.
